NOTICE: Schedule Change for St Patrick’s Day Parade
Due to the number of events taking place on Sunday March 22nd, the St.Patrick’s Day Parade will take place at 5pm – Join us, support us and lets take St.Patrick’s
As in all previous years, St Patrick’s Day events in Budapest support Hungarian charities. This year we are happy to announce three charities that will be beneficiaries.
The first opportunity to give to charity will be at the St Patrick’s Day Parade, Sunday, March 17th, 1pm at Szabadság tér. There will be a face-painting tent that is raising money for the Örök Foundation.
The most important goal of the Őrők Foundation is the development of the onco-hematology department of the Tűzoltó Street Children’s Clinic (i.e. the center of the Hungarian Pediatric Oncology Network), and the improvement of the recovery units and hospital conditions of the seriously ill children suffering from cancer and leukemia. With the donations received, essential renovations to the hospital can be made, specialised medical equipment purchased and support for families can be provided.
At the IHBC St Patrick’s Day Charity Ball (March 23 @ 6:00 pm) there will be a raffle and silent auction benefitting these two charities. Your participation will be greatly appreciated by our chosen charities. Please note that we cannot accept card payments on the night, so please bring cash to buy raffle tickets.
NANE, (A Nők a Nőkért Együtt az Erőszak Ellen Egyesület) the English translation of the acronym stands for Women for Women Together Against Violence Association. Its a non-profit, non-governmental organization, active at the individual, community, and social level, relying solely on individual donations and international grant funding.
By operating a toll-free nation-wide helpline, running self-help groups, workshops and publishing information materials, NANE aims to fight violence against women and children in Hungary.
TaMi – Tarnabod és mi first started in a cold December 2011 when a few volunteers brought food, clothes, blankets to the poverty stricken Tarnabod settlement in Heves county. Since then, the charity has grown from strength to strength. With more volunteers, essential resources can reach the children of Tarnabod and in cooperation with the Order of Malta, education/healthcare is provided. The key driver behind what the volunteers at TaMi do is to show the children in the village that they have alternatives. They don’t have to live the same lives their parents/grandparents have lived.
